Image optimization can reduce transferred bytes for supported image requests. It is configured per distribution.

Controls

Rollout

1

Establish a baseline

Record representative image sizes, visual quality, origin traffic, and cache behavior.
2

Enable one format

Start with WebP or AVIF on a staging distribution. Test browsers, transparent images, animated assets, and metadata expectations.
3

Tune quality

Compare output at the intended display sizes. Avoid judging only from thumbnails.
4

Monitor cache variants

Confirm the optimized format varies correctly by client capability and does not overwrite another format’s cache entry.
Keep original assets at the origin so you can change output formats or quality without reconstructing source images.
