# Organizations and projects

> Structure Aptranet accounts and isolate environments, teams, and resources with projects.

Organizations define membership and billing. Projects define where resources, quotas, permissions, and API keys live.

## Organization operations

From the organization switcher or **Organization settings**, you can:

* Create an organization when your account permits it.
* Update the active organization's name and description.
* Review members and pending invitations.
* Switch organizations. Switching clears the selected project.

## Project operations

Open **Projects** to list, create, and select projects. After selecting one, open **Project settings** to update its name and description.

<Tip>
  Use separate projects for production and non-production. This separates API keys and quotas and reduces the impact of accidental automation.
</Tip>

## Recommended structure

| Need | Recommendation |
| - | - |
| Production and staging | Separate projects |
| Independent business units | Separate organizations when billing or membership must differ |
| Several applications with one operating team | Separate projects if they need independent credentials or quotas |
| Short-lived test | A dedicated non-production project with restricted API keys |

## Deleting resources

Delete dependent CDN distributions before their origin groups. Before deleting a DNS zone, confirm that its domain is no longer delegated to Aptranet nameservers. Organization and project lifecycle operations may require support depending on account configuration.
